Use My Lenses

This is my passionate cartoonist friend Ashish’s blog. I am a regular follower of his blog and his cartoons. Most of the cartoons have humor concentrated on corporate world but then you don’t need to be a geek to understand that coz he really put things in very simple manner. All my best wishes to him..

Happy Reading,

My Unforgettable Visit to VIRAAT.

Posted by Anshul Sharma on February 28, 2010 in Uncategorized

MeAtViraat

I don’t think if I am doing a justice to this blog by describing Viraat in words. Viraat is something which can’t be described in words..

Alright, for those patriotic fellows who don’t know what am I talking about, let me tell them what VIRAAT is. INS Viraat is India’s lone aircraft carrier. The 28,000-tonne INS Viraat, the Centaur class aircraft carrier, was originally commissioned in the British Royal Navy as HMS Hermes Nov 18, 1959. The Indian Navy acquired the platform in 1987 after it had served the Royal Navy for nearly 28 years.

You can see sea harriers parked on the right most corner over the deck. These aircraft can take off and land on the ship vertically.. Now I think, This description is enough to evoke hidden patriotism.

Let me start with my journey to this war-ship. We were supposed to be at ship at 6:30 in the morning, but as usual we were late. My didi didn’t want us to go without having our breakfast, so she made some rolls and god knows what ( but that was delicious ). A sailor escorted us from didi’s place to the ship. That was a very different feeling and I got into a very different mood altogether as I stepped into Viraat. My Jiju was in the ship only, so we met him there and the ship started sailing into the sea. The colour of sea was getting bluer and bluer as we are leaving the cost.

There were some sea harriers parked over the deck which were not looking any different from sleeping tigers. We took some Juices and Chips over with us, and after sailing around 200 miles into the sea, the show started… I have never seen the sea in such a beautiful and pleasant mood, one should see the colour of it.

There were several activities like, landings and take offs of helicopters dropping divers into the sea, re-enforcements by supporting small war-ships etc. but the best was sea harriers take off and vertical landing. They are also known as white tigers and no doubt why. They roar like a tiger when they take off or land. They have enough guts to make our enemies pee themselves just by the roar :D

I can not explain how I was feeling when I saw a jet plan that close to me, landing.. that too vertically :O That plane was floating almost still, just in front of me, and then it landed on the moving ship so smoothly as if its a child’s play.

Though I was tired and its been more than 8 hours on the ship, still I was not feeling like going back home. The day ended with lots of unforgettable memories inside me, which I’ll cherish for the rest of my life.. Don’t know whether I’ll get a chance to see those things again, but that was My Unforgettable Visit to VIRAAT.
